Privacy Policy
Aero VPN is an Android VPN client that allows users to connect to public VPN relay servers using OpenVPN-compatible connections. Aero VPN currently uses public VPN relay information made available through the VPN Gate Academic Experiment Project.
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Aero VPN handles information when you install, access, or use the Aero VPN Android application.
Aero VPN is designed to provide a simple VPN connection experience. The application does not require users to create an Aero VPN account.
By using Aero VPN, you acknowledge that VPN traffic may be routed through independently operated public VPN relay servers and that those third-party servers may apply their own logging, monitoring, security, and data-retention practices.
2. Information Aero VPN Stores
Aero VPN may store limited application data locally on your Android device in order to provide app functionality.
This may include:
- Your selected VPN server.
- Favorite server selections.
- Recently selected servers.
- Auto-connect preference.
- Kill-switch preference.
- Selected connection protocol or connection settings.
- VPN configuration or OpenVPN profile information required to establish a connection.
- Basic application preferences necessary for Aero VPN to function correctly.
This information is primarily stored locally on your device and is used to provide the features you choose inside the application.
3. Information Aero VPN Does Not Intentionally Collect
Aero VPN itself does not intentionally create a centralized database of your browsing history.
Aero VPN does not require a personal user account, and we do not intentionally ask you to provide your name, postal address, phone number, payment information, or personal profile information in order to use the basic VPN connection functionality.
Aero VPN does not sell personal information collected through the application.
4. VPN Network Traffic
When you activate a VPN connection, Android routes supported network traffic through the VPN tunnel to the VPN server you selected or to a server selected automatically by the application.
Because Aero VPN uses public third-party VPN relay servers, Aero VPN does not control every server through which your traffic may pass.
Your internet service provider, VPN relay operator, destination websites, network infrastructure providers, or other parties may be able to observe certain connection metadata depending on the technology used, the destination service, and the VPN server's policies.
5. VPN Gate Public Relay Servers
Aero VPN may obtain server information and OpenVPN configuration information from the VPN Gate Academic Experiment Project operated in association with the University of Tsukuba, Japan, and its participating volunteer VPN relay operators.
VPN Gate relay servers are operated by third parties and volunteers. They are not operated or controlled by Aero VPN.
VPN Gate states that connection logs are maintained for anti-abuse and research-related purposes. Individual volunteer relay servers may also maintain packet-header or connection-related logs according to their applicable logging policies.
Information recorded by VPN Gate or individual relay operators may include connection date and time, source IP address, destination VPN server information, VPN protocol, transferred data totals, connection diagnostics, and certain destination connection metadata.
Users should review VPN Gate's own policies before connecting to its public servers.
6. OpenVPN Technology
Aero VPN uses OpenVPN-compatible technology to establish VPN tunnels. The application may use components derived from or interoperable with OpenVPN for Android.
OpenVPN for Android is an open-source Android OpenVPN implementation maintained by Arne Schwabe.
Third-party and open-source components remain subject to their respective licenses, privacy practices, and terms.
7. Android Permissions and Services
Aero VPN may request or use Android permissions and services required to provide its VPN functionality.
Internet Access
Used to download VPN server information, communicate with VPN relay servers, and provide network connectivity.
Network State
Used to determine network availability and assist with establishing or maintaining a VPN connection.
VPN Service
Aero VPN uses Android's VPN framework or compatible VPN service technology to create and maintain a VPN tunnel.
Android displays a system VPN permission dialog before an application is allowed to create a VPN connection. Aero VPN cannot bypass this Android system authorization.
Foreground Service
A foreground service may be used while the VPN tunnel is active so Android can keep the VPN connection running reliably in the background.
Notifications
Aero VPN may display a notification while the VPN service is active or when Android requires a foreground-service notification.
8. Auto Connect
If you enable Auto Connect, Aero VPN may attempt to establish a VPN connection automatically according to the application's supported behavior and your saved preferences.
You can enable or disable this feature from the Aero VPN Settings screen.
9. Kill Switch
Aero VPN may provide a Kill Switch option intended to reduce network access when the VPN connection becomes unavailable or unexpectedly disconnects.
The exact effectiveness and behavior of this feature may depend on the Android version, Android VPN configuration, device manufacturer, network configuration, and operating-system restrictions.
10. Third-Party Services
Aero VPN relies on third-party network infrastructure and technologies in order to provide VPN functionality.
These may include:
- VPN Gate Academic Experiment Project.
- Volunteer VPN Gate public relay server operators.
- OpenVPN-compatible software components.
- Android operating-system VPN services.
- Your internet service provider and network operator.
These third parties operate independently and may process information according to their own privacy policies, terms, technical systems, retention practices, and legal obligations.
11. Data Security
Aero VPN uses VPN tunneling technology to help protect network traffic between your Android device and the selected VPN server while a VPN connection is active.
However, no VPN, network, server, application, or security technology can guarantee absolute security, anonymity, uninterrupted availability, or protection from every possible threat.
Using a VPN does not make a user completely anonymous online.
12. Data Retention
Application preferences stored locally by Aero VPN generally remain on your device until you change them, clear Aero VPN's application data, or uninstall the application.
Information processed or retained by VPN Gate or individual VPN relay operators is controlled by those parties and is subject to their own data-retention policies.
13. Data Sharing and Sale
Aero VPN does not sell personal information collected through the application.
When you establish a VPN connection, technical information necessarily passes through the selected VPN relay infrastructure so that the VPN connection can operate. Third-party VPN relay operators may process connection information according to their own policies.
14. Children's Privacy
Aero VPN does not provide an account-registration system intended to collect personal information from children.
Parents and guardians should supervise a child's internet and VPN usage where appropriate.
15. Legal and Responsible Use
Aero VPN must not be used for unlawful activities.
Users are responsible for complying with applicable laws, regulations, service terms, network rules, and other legal requirements in their jurisdiction and in jurisdictions relevant to the services they access.
16. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when Aero VPN features, technical infrastructure, third-party services, legal requirements, or privacy practices change.
When this Privacy Policy is updated, the "Last updated" date displayed at the top of this page will be revised.
